Next year sees the 45th anniversary of one of the most unexpected moments in the history of Carlisle United FC. Three wins saw them top of the First Division but since then moments of glory have been rather thin on the ground.
Their other main claim to fame was the incredible game in 1999 when goalkeeper Jimmy Glass scored the most important goal in the club’s history. Facing relegation out of the football league, he scored the goal that saved them from relegation. Five years later they did get relegated but returned to the league at the first time of asking.
Fast forward to 2018 and Carlisle are 13th in League Two, seven points adrift of the play-offs and 11 above the relegation zone. Just two wins in the last nine but now could be the time to try your luck on some Paddy Power match bets.
The odds on them finishing ahead of Yeovil Town are 4/11. Carlisle lead them by six points at present but have played two games more. The last day of the season sees United travel to Yeovil, so this could have a dramatic conclusion, perhaps even a late winner from the goalie?
Home for Christmas
It’s an important time for Carlisle United as three of their next four league games are at home. If they could regain the form that saw them win three straight league matches in August, then they could get climb close to the play-off positions. The odds on them finishing higher than Swindon Town (who they beat 4-0 away last month are 6/5 at Paddy Power.
United only trail them by three points and Swindon have three of their next four away. Grab that 6/5 now because soon the odds could be a lot shorter as Carlisle bid to return to climb up the leagues again.
