The January transfer window is almost here but by the time it ends, where will Jonjo Shelvey be playing? The England international is believed to be unsettled at Newcastle United and could he be heading south in the new year?
Newcastle United isn’t the happiest of clubs in the Premier League. Their manager Rafael Benitez believes it’ll be a miracle if they avoid relegation this season. Strange comments to make after winning the November Manager of the Month award and hardly likely to inspire his team.
Jonjo Shelvey is often mentioned when England are looking for new midfielders. His quick temper does count against him though and probably explains why he’s currently not included. He’s not getting much of a chance at Newcastle either with only nine Premier League appearances this season due to a thigh injury.
Move Looks Imminent
A move away from Newcastle looks likely in January but where might he end up? Fulham are interested as they try to find their own miracle and not end up back in the Championship. Would Shelvey want to swap one relegation battle for another?
Being transferred to West Ham is also rumoured but they look to have a fairly strong midfield at present. Perhaps a move to Crystal Palace might be an option for Shelvey. The Londoners have had a mixed season, one minute beating Manchester City, the next drawing with Cardiff City. They need to score more goals and an improved midfield might give them a boost.
A Move to Palace?
Palace have only scored 17 league goals this season but at the time of writing are seven points above the relegation zone. Shelvey could well be the answer to their problems and get them on a winning run that could take them into the top ten of the English Premier League. The odds on Shelvey making that move to Selhurst Park are a tasty 16/1 at SkyBet.
