Markelle Fultz has been diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, a nerve condition that has been limiting the Philadelphia 76’er for over a year. Fultz, the former first-overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft saw his silky jump shot turn into an internet meme. A jump shot that helped propel him to the top of draft boards was seemingly broken overnight, and no one could understand why.
Fultz had seen a number of specialists over that time span but no physical injury could be identified. There was speculation that the injury could have been psychosomatic and that he would have to essentially shoot his way out of the mental block.
As time passed, the 20-year-old guard was forced to make unforeseen changes to his shot to accomodate for the fact that he no longer had full range of motion in his shoulders. At this point, it was clear that there was something much more serious than a mental block going on, which led Fultz to even more specialists.
Finally, one of the more perplexing injury stories that the NBA has seen in quite some time has found some explanation. Fultz will start his rehabilitation process with physical therapy in hopes that he will be able to avoid surgery and as of now he is listed as out indefinitely.
As for the 76’ers, they will be traveling to Detroit to take on the Pistons on Friday night. Philadelphia opened up as 1.5-point road favorite and have been bet up to 2.5-point favorites taking nearly 76-percent of the betting action to this point. It will be interesting to see where this line closes as the counter punchers will have the shot to fade the public while taking the home dog here.
