Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) Suspends Three Operators

Waving Malta Flag

The Maltese gaming authorities have taken action against three gambling operators, suspending their licenses pending an investigation.

The Maltese Gaming Authority (MGA) which is responsible for regulating and monitoring the activities of operators based in Malta, announced the suspensions in three separate notices on Friday. German online bookmaker Betixx Limited, Silema-based games producer Morpheus Games, and World-of-bets EU Limited, have all been suspended with no time limit announced on the suspension.

Betixx has been a licensed operator with the MGA since 2013, but as of last week, the company has been ordered to freeze all new player registrations and deposits. The MGA has also ordered websites associated with Betixx to remove any promotional or marketing material related to the company. The official announcement on the MGA site states that Betixx Limited is not authorised to continue conducting gaming operations under their MGA licence.

In the case of Morpheus Games, which has held an MGA licensee since 2017, the developer has been ordered to remove its full games catalogue from all associated partners and websites. The MGA has gone further in the case of World-of-bets EU Limited. The operator has been licensed since 2008, but the MGA has now terminated their licence and customers who attempt to visit the site are directed to a holding page. The MGA has advised any customers who have outstanding payments with the suspended operators to contact the Authority to resolve any issues.

In addition to the suspension actions taken by the MGA, all three operators have been placed under investigation, but the Authority has not so far provided any information on the scope or detail of its enquiries, in order not to compromise what are considered ongoing investigations.
