After a court ruling, Israel have blocked several illegal online gambling sites. Locals will now be unable to access Toto Bet 777, 1XBet and P2V Bet. This is a method which is becoming popular around Europe.
Gambling is mainly illegal in the country with the only types allowed being the lottery and sports betting. Companies who are based in Israel aren’t allowed to operate online gaming platforms. However, this hasn’t stopped some notable gambling companies from operating in the country.
This includes 888 Holdings who were founded by a team of Israelis and have their marketing and development subsidiary base in Israel. Playtech have their technical support and marketing subsidiaries based in the country, while Ladbrokes, Coral and William Hill also have marketing operations based there.
Last year saw legislation passed that gave district judges to power to order a block on websites promoting nefarious or illegal content. This has subsequently led to dozens of sites being blocked and lawyer Jonathan Klinger believes the owners should also be prosecuted because getting around being blocked is a relatively straightforward process.
A Growing Trend
Several other countries have been following the same policy of blacklisting gambling operators who don’t have the required licenses. Poland have been busy in this activity with more than 2,400 domains now on the Polish blacklist. Some gambling operators are now changing their domains in an attempt to get around the legislation.
Italy’s latest coalition government is also pursuing similar anti-gambling laws. Their gambling site blacklist is getting close to the 5,000 mark. A similar blacklist in Greece is just over the 400 mark, and Bulgaria has just reached three figures with numbers likely to increase in the future as this approach becomes a popular method.
