Birmingham’s leading independent casino have backed local boxing hero Tommy Langford to win back the British title on September 8 at the Birmingham Arena, live on Sky Sports.
Broadway Casino have generously financed the former British, Commonwealth and WBO Inter-Continental middleweight champion’s costly training camp in preparation for his eagerly-anticipated rematch with the British titleholder Jason Welborn on the undercard of Amir Khan’s next fight.
The plush gaming complex, situated in the city centre, is headed up by Managing Director Denis Dowling and General Manager Charles Griffin, who boast over 60 years of experience between them.
Established in 2005, Broadway Casino not only boasts a first-class gaming floor and a renowned card room but comprises a number of facilities that are truly second to none, including the sophisticated Italian restaurant and the hugely popular Ralph’s bar, which will be showing the fight on September 8 as well as hosting the after-party.
Charles Griffin commented on the new partnership, “Broadway Casino is delighted to support Tommy, he’s always a winner with us – great boxer, great person, always gives 100 percent.”
Broadway Casino’s logo will be emblazoned across Tommy Langford’s fight kit when he rematches local rival Jason Welborn for the British middleweight title.
Langford, 28 from Birmingham, conceded his British middleweight strap to local rival Welborn on May 4 in a thrilling 12-round war, which has now been nominated in the Contest of the Year category at this year’s BBBofC Awards 2018.
The fight between the two West Bromwich Albion FC fans was aptly titled ‘Battle of the Baggies’ and was played out in front of an exhilarated sold-out crowd at the Walsall Town Hall.
Formerly signed to Frank Warren, the former England amateur captain will now get to showcase his skills on Sky Sports for the first time in his successful six-year career that once saw him reach as high as no.2 in the WBO world rankings.
Still placed in the top 15 middleweights in the world, the talented 160-pounder commented on the new partnership, “I’m really happy that a local business is supporting me on a big night of sport for Birmingham. It’s great that the best casino in Birmingham is backing a local fighter and I’m really pleased they’re hosting the after-party for me so I can celebrate and spend time with all my fans, friends and family after all the hard work I’ve put in.
“I aim to represent Broadway Casino and Birmingham with a fitting performance.”
Tommy’s Agent, Tim Rickson, further commented on the sponsorship deal he brokered:
Broadway Casino have been a friend of Team Langford for a number of years already, allowing Tommy to use their facilities for interviews and media commitments whenever he needs to. Their financial backing and support for this fight has been a great and timely provision for the team to help Tommy focus all his efforts into regaining his British belt.”
Langford’s clash with Welborn is part of a huge night of action in the second city, topped by Amir Khan’s Welterweight showdown with Samuel Vargas.
Ryan Kelly defends the Midlands Area Super-Welterweight title he won in May via stoppage at Villa park against unbeaten Dordon man Kelcie Ball, Stourbridge banger Sam Eggington appears on the bill with Super-Bantamweight star Gamal Yafai, while Geordie Lightweight ace Lewis Ritson keeps busy ahead of his return to the Metro Radio Arena on October 13.
