Following their recent deal to sponsor snooker’s English Open, BetVictor has announced another sports league link-up, this time in European basketball.
The UK bookmaker is set to become the official betting partner of Germany’s Euroleague Basketball until 2020, with the aim of using its reputation to help boost the appeal and the supporter base of the competition in Germany.
The Director of Sportsbook at BetVictor, Matt Scarrott, said that the German sports betting market was strategically important to the company and that they were delighted to be linking up with a sport that has become increasingly popular on the continent:
Basketball is a roaring sport in Europe, and Euroleague Basketball competitions are playing a pivotal role in the increasing popularity of the game in basketball hotbeds, and in new territories like Germany.”
The 2018-19 EuroLeague competition got underway on Thursday and will run until the Final Four stage of the play-offs in May 2019. It features the 16 best teams in European basketball, and eight of those teams will advance to the play-offs next year.
Speaking about the deal, the Chief Business Officer of Euroleague Basketball, Roser Queralto, said that the partnership with such a long-established operator in the sports betting industry would help to boost the competition as it attempts to increase its fan base.
The basketball announcement follows another sports tie-up confirmed earlier this week. BetVictor will be the new sponsor of snooker’s Home Nations series, the first ranking event of the season, which will be held at the K2 Crawley in London between October 15 and 21.
