9/1 on Harry Maguire Moving to Old Trafford in January

Defensive problems are causing havoc for Manchester United’s Premier League season. Goal after goal is being conceded by them and something must change sooner rather than later. Could they re-ignite their interest in Leicester City defender Harry Maguire in January?

After his impressive performances for England in the 2018 World Cup, Maguire attracted the interest of several clubs. A move to Old Trafford looked to be on the cards as Manchester United looked to mount a title challenge.  Ironically the opening Premier League fixture of the season saw United host Leicester City.

United’s Defensive Woes

No transfer took place and the inability to sign Harry Maguire may already have had a huge impact on Manchester United’s season. The 3-1 loss at Anfield on Sunday meant they have conceded 29 goals in the Premier League this season, two more than were scored against them last term with 21 games to go. Their defence often looks a shambles and is affecting other areas of the team too. Mourinho is reluctant to play Fred in midfield until the defence stops shipping goals left, right and centre.

Leicester on the Slide

Over at Leicester City it’s been an emotional and inconsistent season. The loss at Crystal Palace on Saturday saw them drop to 12th in the table.  A relegation battle looks unlikely as they are ten points above the bottom three. This week they take on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup, defeat there would be another blow for the club and might get Maguire thinking again about his future at the club.

United need to bolster that defence if they are to have any hope of finishing in the top four this season. Rekindling their interest in Harry Maguire when the January transfer window opens could well be an option. It’s 9/1 at SkyBet that the England defender ends up at Old Trafford next month.
