Jermain Defoe’s future looks uncertain at Bournemouth. The former England striker has rarely featured for Bournemouth this season and is yet to score a goal. Could he be on his way out of the club and on the way to Crystal Palace in January?
No Time at All
Defoe has been hitting the headlines more for his off-the-field charity work than scoring goals in the Premier League. He’s only played nine games for Bournemouth this season and appeared in the Premier League for just 22 minutes. At the age of 36 he needs some more time on the pitch for one last hurrah.
Whether that can happen at Bournemouth looks doubtful. Even though the team have been struggling of late, there’s still plenty of candidates up front for The Cherries. He spent Boxing Day on the bench as his current team lost 5-0 to one of his former clubs Tottenham Hotspur.
The transfer window opens next week, so could Defoe be on the move? It’s a strong possibility and there are several teams out there who wouldn’t mind having him on their books. A return to Sunderland is a possibility, but would Defoe want to drop down to League One?
Palace Struggling for Goals
Defoe may be 36 now but he’s always been one of those strikers who will score if given one or two chances in a game. Boxing Day saw Crystal Palace create 31 goalscoring chances but still only draw 0-0 at home to Cardiff City. Palace have only scored 17 league goals this season and failed to score in eight of their league games this season. They have Christian Benteke out injured so a move for Defoe would make common sense for Roy Hodgson’s team.
Defoe can be backed at 8/11 at SkyBet to move to Selhurst Park before the end of the January transfer window.
