It’s not been a great season for Alexis Sanchez and he seems to be going from one controversial incident to another. Are his days at Old Trafford numbered and could he return to Barcelona in the January transfer window?
Since joining Manchester United from Arsenal in the 2018 January transfer window, life hasn’t been easy for the Chilean. He was expected to make an impact at Old Trafford, but it just hasn’t seemed to work out for him.
An Unlikely Bet
In his time with Arsenal, Sanchez netted 60 goals in 122 performances but at Old Trafford, he’s only scored three goals in the Premier League. He never exactly had a great relationship with Jose Mourinho and it’s no surprise that allegedly he had a £20,000 bet with team-mate Marcos Rojo that the boss would get the sack. It’s not exactly the kind of loyalty you expect from your players, a bit like the time Jeff Thomson and Dennis Lillee put money on England to beat Australia.
Injuries have played their part in his disappointing spell with United. He’s currently out with a hamstring problem, though that doesn’t seem to have stopped him going horse-riding in Chile. Sanchez gets paid £505,000 a week, not bad for a striker who has one goal in 12 games this season.
Exit Old Trafford
The January transfer window is almost upon us and that could mean another big-money move for Sanchez. A return to the Emirates looks unlikely and PSG are favourites to sign him. However, could he perhaps return to Barcelona?
Sanchez played for the La Liga leaders between 2011 and 2014 scoring 39 goals in 88 games. Barcelona only have a narrow lead at the top of the table and yearn to get the Champions League trophy back from Real Madrid. Sanchez would certainly boost their chances of success if regaining his form. 8/1 at Betfair could well be a good investment.
