Frank Lampard has made a strong start to his managerial career. His Derby County side are sixth in the Championship and could be heading for the play-offs. The second half of the season is tough though, so could Lampard add some experience to his team?
Ashley Cole played alongside Lampard many a time for both Chelsea and England and he’s now a free agent after being released by LA Galaxy. Cole has said there are several English clubs looking to sign him and one of those could well be Derby County. Aston Villa are also in the hunt for Cole and there’s even talk that he may yet stay with LA Galaxy. However, the link between Cole and Lampard is one that could well be resurrected in the coming weeks.
Cole has just turned 38 years of age and is only two years younger than Lampard. He spent two seasons with LA Galaxy, neither of which saw them qualify for the play-offs. He was made captain for his second season with them but was released at the end of it.
Derby Need Experience
Derby County have had a habit in recent years of doing well in the first half of the season and then collapsing. That’s the last thing they want to do this season and again miss out on a return to the riches that can be earned in the Premier League. One problem they have had this season is in defence and they have conceded at least twice on eight occasions this season.
With the pressure growing, Derby County need some experience and Ashley Cole definitely fits the bill. He’s a free agent so no massive transfer fee needs to be paid and it’s 2/1 at SkyBet that that he moves to Derby County.
