The English Premier League is said to be the best league in the world. This isn’t going to be an article discussing that as we’d be here all year on that subject. Instead, we’re going to look at whether a bet should be laid on an English team winning either the Champions or Europa League this season.
The Champions League resumes in February and English teams will be bidding to win the Champions League for the first time since Chelsea won it in 2012. Recent years have seen Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid win the competition for the past five years with the latter winning for the past four seasons.
It’s England v Germany
England has four teams left in the Champions League with three of them facing German opposition in the last sixteen. Manchester City face Schalke 04 and unless they have one of the off-days that have marred their Premier League campaign, should reach the last eight with ease.
Neighbours Manchester United take on PSG and they’d probably have been better off moving into the Europa League as defeat awaits them here. United may have improved form but can’t keep clean sheets.
Tottenham struggled to get out of their group and now face Borussia Dortmund. They beat them last year, but Dortmund now top the Bundesliga and will be more difficult to beat. That leaves us with Liverpool who are still unbeaten in the Premier League but lost all three of their away group games. They take on Bayern Munich and that away form must improve.
Better Hopes in Europa League
Over in the Europa League there are better hopes of glory. We still have Chelsea and Arsenal in the last 32. Chelsea have the experience of winning European competitions and If you fancy the 19/10 at Unibet on an English team winning a European trophy, then there’s a reasonable chance that might happen.
