14/1 Steven Gerrard is the next England Manager

It may be a few years off or it could be sometime in the summer but just who will replace Gareth Southgate and become the next England manager.

Gareth Southgate has been winning plenty of awards of late and must be more grateful of that lucky draw in Russia as every day passes.  No one seems to remember that England lost three games in the World Cup finals and over 90 minutes won one of their last five.

There has been some improvement and England will line up in the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League next summer.  Southgate looks likely to be England manager for the foreseeable future, unless Manchester United come chasing.

Good Start to Managerial Career

Meanwhile in Scotland, Steven Gerrard has made a good start to his managerial career. His Glasgow Rangers team are second in the Scottish Premiership and this weekend beat bitter rivals Glasgow Celtic in the Old Firm derby.

His team also had a lengthy Europa League campaign that saw them through the qualifying stages and so nearly into the last 32.  All very promising signs that Gerrard is going to have a long and successful career as a football manager.

A Bright Future

Winning the title and giving Rangers their first Scottish Premiership title since 2011 would be a great achievement for a manager in his first job. Gerrard’s future looks likely to one day return to Anfield and become their manager, though the current incumbent is doing rather well at present.

Perhaps it’s with England that will be his next job. He had a long illustrious career in an England shirt and doesn’t have any minus points re discipline. The more Gerrard achieves in the coming years, the better the current odds of 14/1 at Paddy Power on him being the next England manager look.
